With us at RFH Classics we are pleased to offer this distinguished 1964 Wolseley 6/110 Mk II, finished in the rich and very period Maroon B exterior colour that is complemented beautifully by a Cream Leather and Walnut interior. This is a truly impressive piece of British engineering and a wonderful example of one of the final “big Wolseleys”.

From information provided by the former owner we are led to believe that this car is the earliest surviving Mk II known to the Wolseley owners’ club, making it a particularly interesting example for collectors and enthusiasts alike. The car came to us in part exchange and since its arrival we have undertaken a small amount of sympathetic paint correction along with a service and the leather interior has been carefully cleaned and Connolised. The paintwork presents extremely well for a 61 year old car retaining a deep shine that reflects a well cared for classic.

The Wolseley 6/110 holds an important place in British motoring history as the final evolution of the marque’s larger luxury saloons and served as BMC’s flagship executive car in the early 1960s. Introduced in 1961 the styling was influenced by Pininfarina with the car sharing its elegant proportions with the Austin Westminster and Vanden Plas Princess although Wolseley models were finished to their own distinct and particularly refined standard.

Under the bonnet the power comes from BMC’s smooth and capable 2.9 litre straight-six engine, delivering the quiet and effortless performance expected of a car of this class. The later Mk II version introduced in 1964 is widely regarded as the most developed of the series benefiting from a floor change gearbox, revised suspension for improved ride and handling and upgraded braking performance. Surviving examples of these large Wolseleys are now extremely scarce, making well preserved cars such as this particularly appealing. The fact that the owners’ club notes this car as the earliest known Mk II adds an additional layer of interest and distinction.

This car comes with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox and features a beautifully appointed Cream Leather interior sourced from a Vanden Plas providing an extra touch of period luxury that suits the car perfectly. The cabin presents very well with the lighter leather trim contrasting beautifully with the Maroon exterior and highlighting the car’s wonderfully traditional and gentlemanly character.

In our office we hold a detailed and interesting history file which includes documentation confirming the car previously changing hands in Dorset for £14,000, along with extensive records relating to restoration work carried out between 2013 and 2015. It was during this period that the car’s original two-tone paint scheme was professionally refinished in the single colour Maroon B it wears today, a change that has clearly been carried out to a very high standard. Detailed in the folder are the details of when the car has appeared in film and television work helping add to its provenience.
