With us at RFH Classics we have this beautifully presented 1966 (D) MGB Roadster 1.8 finished in the rare and particularly attractive Mineral Blue with a contrasting Black Leather interior featuring Pale Blue piping. Mineral Blue was offered for only a relatively short period during 1966 and is a colour that suits the early chrome bumper MGB particularly well, giving this example a lovely sense of period charm.
This well kept Roadster has had just four former owners, with its most recent owner enjoying the car for nearly 12 years. Having undergone an extensive restoration approximately 16 years ago, the MG has more recently benefited from a comprehensive and sympathetic refurbishment here at RFH Classics. When we acquired the car, we felt it deserved some further attention to bring it up to the standard we like to offer, and this included a full repaint in its original Mineral Blue along with the replacement of numerous exterior chrome trims.
The result is a particularly attractive early Roadster, with bright and consistent paintwork complemented by a set of Chrome Wire Wheels that suit the car beautifully. The attention given to the bodywork and exterior detailing has made a considerable difference to its overall presentation, while retaining the traditional appearance that makes these early MGBs so appealing.
Inside, the Black Leather seats with their contrasting Pale Blue piping complement the exterior colour particularly well, while the carpets and interior trim are all in excellent condition. We have also retrimmed the boot area in Black carpet, providing a smart and practical finish. The car retains its traditional packaway hood, which can be stored neatly in the boot when not required, and a tonneau cover is also included. Under the bonnet sits the familiar 1798cc B-Series engine, running on unleaded fuel and maintaining good oil pressure both hot and cold. The car also benefits from a recently fully rebuilt four-speed manual gearbox with Overdrive operating on third and fourth gears, making it a particularly pleasant classic to use on longer journeys. Whilst the engine and gearbox were removed, we took the opportunity to refinish the engine block and rocker cover in the correct Maroon, giving the engine bay a smart and authentic appearance.
Accompanying the MG is an extensive history file containing previous MOT certificates and invoices documenting maintenance and expenditure over many years. These have been carefully arranged in one of our RFH Classics history folders and provide a useful insight into the care the car has received throughout its life. For us, the appeal of this particular MGB lies in its unusual original colour, attractive period specification and the considerable work that has gone into its restoration and subsequent refurbishment. It is a lovely example of the early chrome bumper Roadster and one that is now ready for its next owner to enjoy.
The car qualifies for Historic Vehicle road tax and is ULEZ exempt under current regulations. Although MOT exempt due to its age, it will be supplied with a fresh MOT test as part of our preparation, together with our three-month major mechanical warranty covering the engine, gearbox and drivetrain. A vehicle history certificate confirming no recorded outstanding finance or insurance loss will also be provided. Available for viewing by appointment at our Bedfordshire showroom, where prospective purchasers are welcome to inspect both the car and its accompanying history. Part exchange is welcome, and we can arrange covered delivery throughout the UK or assist with overseas shipping.
