Beautiful Restored Example

TRIUMPH TR3

Convertible (1960)

With us once again at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this wonderfully characterful 1960 Triumph TR3 Roadster, finished in a vibrant Bright Red with a contrasting Black interior piped in White, a colour combination that suits the car perfectly and really highlights its classic 1950s lines.

The Triumph TR3 is one of those cars that truly defined British open-top motoring. Introduced in 1955 as an evolution of the TR2, it quickly built a reputation for being tough, simple and surprisingly capable, both on the road and in competition. With its cutaway doors, wide grille and purposeful stance, the TR3 has a presence that feels every bit as special today as it did over 60 years ago.

This particular example sits just right on its original style pressed steel wheels, complete with chrome centre hubcaps, giving it a very honest and period correct look. It’s a car that doesn’t try too hard, it simply delivers exactly what you would hope for from a classic British roadster.

Under the bonnet sits the lead free 1991cc four-cylinder engine that in period produced around 100bhp. In a car of this weight that still makes for lively performance, and when paired with the twin SU carburettors and 4-speed manual gearbox, it delivers a driving experience that is both engaging and surprisingly usable. These engines are well known for their robustness and willingness, and this example feels exactly as it should.

From chassis records we can see the car was built towards the end of 1959 for the home market, before being registered in 1960. Interestingly, although UK supplied, it spent a period of its life overseas before returning to the UK in 1981, as confirmed by the V5, adding an extra layer of history to the car’s story.

Accompanying the car is a substantial history file, including details of a restoration carried out around 2008, with numerous parts supplied by Moss Europe and other recognised TR specialists. The invoices within the file represent a significant investment at the time and help support the quality of the work undertaken. MOT records from 2009 through to 2017 suggest the restoration was completed around that period, and importantly the car has clearly been well preserved since.

The interior remains in excellent condition, with the seat trim, carpets, detachable vinyl hood and full tonneau cover all presenting very well, a real testament to both the quality of the restoration and the limited use the car has seen in recent years.

Since 2014 the car has covered fewer than 1,000 miles and has spent much of that time in dry storage. The overall condition reflects this careful ownership, with the car presenting today as a very smart and usable example that is ready to be enjoyed. A charming, honest and very usable example of a true British icon, and one that always draws attention wherever it goes.
