MG MGB

Here with at RFH Classics we have this 1981 (W) MGB LE Roadster that we supplied to the previous owner just over 3 years ago and recently arrived back in stock with us following their loss of storage. The LE Special Edition was the final run of MGB’s built at Abingdon and was a limited production run of just 1001 car of which 421 were Roadsters and 580 were the GT variant. For the UK market the LE was produced in 2 unique colour, Bronze Metallic for the Roadster and Pewter Silver for the GT with production of these final cars being from 1979 to 1981. In addition to the unique paintwork the LE Model was fitted with GKN Alloys that were also commonly referred to as the Stag Alloy. From new the interior of the car would have been fitted with the ‘Deckchair’ style cloth trim however along the way this car now features the more practical Black Leather as a replacement.

The first owner purchased the car in 1981 and she subsequently went on to own the car for some 16 years, under her ownership the history indicates she maintained to a very high standard. The extensive history file for the car contains the original purchase invoice for the car in 1981 along with details of the photographic history of restoration work undertaken and extensive receipts for work including inner and outer sills to both sides, lower rear wing, new doors, boot panel and both front wings being replaced. Looking through the history file it would suggest the car has not had a lot of use since around 2001 and the paperwork would suggest the mileage to be correct.

Under the bonnet sits a 1798cc petrol engine that has excellent hot and cold oil pressure and fires into life with a little choke. In 2016 the car had the cylinder head upgraded to unleaded and the most recent MOT for the car was without any advisories. The engine is paired to a 4 speed manual gearbox and comes complete with Overdrive to 3rd and 4th gears. The roof that clearly has been replaced over the years is in very good order and folds away easily to allow open topped driving. We have priced this car very well to offer you the chance of a well priced pre season classic. The rubber bumper variants of the MG range have played a big part in the history of the cars and are now equally as sought after as any of its chrome bumper variants. This car offers the new owner a very usable car, yes like all classics it could be improved upon but the price reflects this and perhaps more importantly though it gives the new owner a great value classic that is sure to attract a lot of admiring glances.

This MGB is registered for Historic Road Tax which in turn qualifies it to be ULEZ Exempt, add this to the low insurance costs for classic cars and it makes for a very affordable classic to own.
