The SL500 is part of the highly regarded R129 generation of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship convertible, produced between 1989 and 2002. Introduced as the successor to the long running R107, the R129 brought a new era of technology and safety with innovations including an automatically deploying roll bar, traction control and improved passenger safety zones.

While the model was offered with a wide range of engines, under the bonnet of this car sits the robust 5.0-litre V8 producing 322bhp when new. It delivers smooth, effortless performance whether covering long motorway journeys or more relaxed country drives and comes with a satisfyingly rich V8 rumble that has helped make the SL one of the world’s most desirable luxury roadsters.

Open the substantial driver’s door and you are welcomed by a luxurious Mushroom leather cabin that combines comfort with timeless style. Polished Burr Walnut veneers on the dashboard and centre console still remain in excellent condition with complementing features such as climate control air conditioning, remote locking, Bluetooth connectivity, wind deflector and a fully functional electrically powered roof.

In the office we hold an extensive service history folder dating back to 2000 and containing a large number of invoices and MOT certificates. These help show the car has been maintained to a very high standard with many costs being covered by the McLaren car group when it was in the ownership of a senior member of the company. While slightly higher mileage than some examples, this car has only averaged fewer than 5,000 miles per year which is supported by the history file.
