With us now at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this charming 1971 (J) Volkswagen Beetle 1300, finished in the period colour of Elm Green and complemented by a smart, well presented Black interior. Elm Green has to be one of those colours that perfectly suits the unmistakable shape of a Beetle and gives this iconic Volkswagen an authentic seventies appearance that ensures it stands out for all the right reasons.

For us one of the appealing aspects of this particular Beetle is its ownership story. Purchased by the previous owner’s grandfather in 1985, the car went to his father and then earlier this year it was transferring to him earlier this year giving it a family ownership history of around forty years which we thought was a lovely background of the car.

Supporting the history is an extensive run of MOT certificates dating back to 1987, when the Beetle was recorded at 70,467 miles through to 2019 at 84,440 miles. Interestingly, many of these MOT tests were carried out by the same Birmingham garage, Southdell, providing a fascinating insight into the car’s long term local history and consistent care over many years.

Under the family’s ownership the Beetle benefited from substantial restoration work including the front wing replacement as well as a subsequent repaint in the original Elm Green shown in the pictures. Today, after a light professional mop and polish the paintwork continues to present to a high standard with the rest of the car retaining the honest character and charm you would hope to find in a cherished classic Volkswagen. The interior presents nicely and has possibly been re-trimmed at some stage, creating a smart and inviting cabin whilst remaining entirely in keeping with the car’s period character.

Mechanically, the Beetle retains its original 1285cc engine and has recently been recommissioned following approximately four years of being stored. It starts readily, runs well and offers exactly the sort of simple, enjoyable driving experience that has made the Beetle one of the world’s most recognisable and enduring classic cars.
