With us here at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this beautifully presented 1978 (S) MGB Roadster 1.8 finished in the vibrant shade of Vermillion Red and complemented by one of the most striking interiors we have seen fitted to an MGB. Previously supplied by us and recently returned in part exchange from a valued repeat customer, this is a car we know well and one that has clearly continued to be cherished throughout its ownership.

The extensive refurbishment carried out to this Roadster has transformed it into something rather special. Most immediately noticeable is the beautifully retrimmed Ivory Leather interior, created by the owners of Mirror Trim as both their personal classic and demonstration vehicle, ensuring the work showcased the very highest standards of their craftsmanship. Upgraded Club seats provide improved comfort while matching Ivory Leather extends throughout the cabin onto the interior trim panels, complemented by new carpets including the boot. A traditional wood-rim steering wheel and matching gear knob complete the period-inspired appearance, while the overdrive switch has been thoughtfully relocated to its original dashboard position, providing a neat and practical solution without compromising the car’s character.

Accompanying the car is an extensive history file containing a fascinating piece of its early ownership. Documentation confirms that during 1985 the car was purchased by the son of British media entrepreneur Lew Grade as a gift for his father, at which point it wore the personalised registration LG 1. Records show the car had covered just 38,530 miles when acquired and remained in the family’s ownership for around four years with very little use. The accompanying MOT history supports this gentle mileage progression, recording 41,330 miles in 1991 and only 74,562 miles by the year 2000, giving further confidence that the current recorded mileage is genuine.

Protected from new with Ziebart rustproofing, we are advised the car still retains its original body panels despite undergoing an extensive refurbishment around 2009. The history file also records a comprehensive engine upgrade by Hodson Engineering, including an unleaded cylinder head conversion and the installation of a fast road camshaft, providing a welcome improvement in performance whilst retaining the dependable character of the proven 1798cc engine.

Today the car presents exceptionally well throughout. The Vermillion Red paint is beautifully complemented by addition of the polished-edge Minilite alloy wheels fitted with matching tyres, giving the Roadster a purposeful yet tasteful appearance. Combined with its unique interior, impressive history file and well-considered upgrades, this is a distinctive MGB that stands apart from the majority on the market whilst remaining every bit as enjoyable to drive as it is to admire.
