TRIUMPH SPITFIRE
Convertible (1972/K)
With us here at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this beautifully presented 1972 (K) Triumph Spitfire 1300 MKIV, finished in the very period Signal Red and complemented by a Black Vinyl interior, Black Fabric hood and Minilite Alloy Wheels. Adding considerably to both the appearance and versatility of the car is a matching Red Hardtop, making this a particularly appealing example of one of Triumph’s best loved British sports cars.
The car has come to us from a previous customer and presents in excellent condition throughout. It has been the subject of an extensive but older restoration programme, supported by a substantial history which we have carefully organised into chronological order within our own RFH Classics history folders. The paperwork adds real strength to the car and includes old MOT tests, restoration and maintenance invoices, service records, old tax discs and photographs of work carried out providing an excellent insight into the car’s history and the considerable investment made into the vehicle.
Externally, the paintwork is finished to a high standard and particularly suits the compact, sporting lines of the MKIV. The hood features an opening rear window panel which is a useful detail for ventilation and especially welcome during the current heatwave. For colder periods of use, or simply for those who enjoy the alternative appearance, it has the option of the included Hardtop. Inside, the cabin presents extremely well and retains a suitably period feel, with high back seats trimmed in Black Vinyl and featuring vertically pleated centre panels, complemented by matching Black carpets and a wood veneer dashboard. The combination works particularly well against the Red paintwork with the traditional instrumentation and switchgear retaining the simple, driver-focused character expected of a classic British sports car.
Lift the distinctive forward-hinged clamshell bonnet to reveal Triumph’s 1296cc lead free four-cylinder petrol engine. The accompanying history records that the engine has been rebuilt as part of the extensive programme of work carried out on the car, while the engine bay itself is very well detailed and reflects the overall standard of the Spitfire. Power is delivered through the four-speed manual gearbox, enhanced by the desirable Overdrive operating on both 3rd and 4th gears. The addition of the Overdrive helps make longer journeys and faster road driving far more relaxed while retaining the character for which the Spitfire is so well known. As part of our own preparation we have carried out a service, replaced the rear wheel cylinders and, despite not requiring one, had the car independently MOT tested ready for its next owner. Today the spitfire remains one of the most recognisable small British sports cars of its era, this car brings together many of the features we look for in a classic and is a particularly appealing MKIV Spitfire that is ready to be enjoyed.
