With us at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this beautifully presented 1957 Lambretta LD150, a wonderfully characterful example of one of Innocenti’s most recognisable early scooters. Finished in crisp New White with contrasting Blue detailing, its enclosed bodywork, flowing lines and unmistakably Italian styling give the LD a charm all of its own. Better still, accompanying documentation reveals a British history extending back at least to the mid-1960s, making this a particularly interesting example.

Identified by its frame number 259*** as an Italian-built 1957 LD150, the scooter retains its period registration 305 AKE and comes with some fascinating evidence of its earlier life. This includes a surviving April 1966 UK tax disc together with period photographs showing the Lambretta prior to restoration and carrying the same registration. Although the current DVLA record dates from September 2011, the history explains why. Correspondence from the Vintage Motor Cycle Club confirms that an application was made for Original Registration Retention, with the scooter subsequently inspected as part of that process. Its V5C records it as manufactured in 1957 and 305 AKE was successfully retained when the modern DVLA record was established. While we cannot establish that the Lambretta was originally supplied new in Britain, the surviving documentation confirms its UK history extends back considerably further than the 2011 registration date might initially suggest.

Further supporting its history is an earlier auction catalogue entry for this particular scooter, identifiable by its matching registration, frame and engine numbers. The catalogue records that the Lambretta had been acquired as a dismantled project and subsequently rebuilt by its then owner, also referring specifically to the 1966 tax disc and the retention of its Kent registration when it was registered with the DVLA in 2011. This provides a useful independent record of the scooter and its restoration at that point in its history. Since 2011 the Lambretta has had just two recorded keepers, with the most recent owning it from 2016. Today it presents very nicely throughout in New White with Blue detailing and offers the opportunity to own and enjoy a particularly appealing early Lambretta.

Produced by Innocenti, the LD series holds an important place in Lambretta history. Introduced in the early 1950s, it developed the Lambretta concept into a more refined, fully enclosed scooter offering greater protection and practicality while retaining the lightweight engineering and distinctive Italian design for which the marque became known. By the mid-1950s Lambretta had established itself as a major rival to Vespa, with models such as the LD playing an important part in that success. Powered by its 150cc two-stroke engine, the LD150 offered a useful increase in performance over the smaller 125cc models while retaining the straightforward, easy-going nature that made scooters such popular everyday transport during the period. Today that same simplicity makes the LD an enjoyable classic for local rides, shows and events.

What makes this example particularly appealing is the combination of its presentation and surviving provenance. The 1966 tax disc, period photographs, VMCC correspondence and surviving historical catalogue record provide a tangible link to its earlier life that is often missing with restored scooters of this age. The scooter qualifies for Historic Vehicle road tax and is ULEZ exempt. It will be supplied with a vehicle history certificate detailing its recorded finance and insurance status.
