ROVER P5

Just arrived with us at RFH Classics we have this rather special and particularly early 1959 Rover P5 3-Litre Mk I Saloon, beautifully finished in the original factory colour combination of Shadow Green over Rush Green with a contrasting Beige interior.

Built on 22nd June 1959 and supplied new by Henlys Motors of Piccadilly, London, this is a wonderfully characterful example of Rover’s imposing P5 and comes with a particularly interesting history.

The car was subsequently exported to Cagliari, Italy, before returning to the UK in 2008. Remarkably, it then remained with the same UK owner for the following 19 years, during which time it became a well-known and much-loved example, attending numerous club events, shows and even being used for weddings.

Its history file is especially impressive and contains earlier MOT certificates, period Rover literature, workshop manuals, photographs, magazine and newspaper cuttings and documentation covering its life and maintenance. The car itself has also enjoyed considerable media exposure, including features in Classic Car Weekly, Classic & Sports Car and Rover P5 magazine Take Five.

Perhaps most unusually, it has even enjoyed a little television fame, having appeared in the BBC drama Call the Midwife, Series 6 Episode 1.

Showing a recorded 78,258 miles, this P5 has clearly been cherished and professionally maintained, with extensive recommissioning carried out whilst retaining as much originality as possible. It remains MOT tested until May 2027, despite being MOT exempt.

Powered by Rover’s wonderfully smooth 3.0-litre straight-six engine, this imposing early P5 represents everything that made Rover synonymous with traditional British luxury during the period.
