With us now at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this very attractive 1988 (F) Mercedes-Benz 300SL (R107), finished in the classic combination of Signal Red with Cream Leather and showing 85,416 miles. Supplied new in August 1988, accompanied by 24 recorded services and previously well known to The SL Shop, this is an R107 with an unusually comprehensive history and provenance.

The car was supplied new by Car and Commercial Services of Aylesbury on 1st August 1988 and retains its driver's handbook together with the original handbook pack, operating instructions and maintenance booklet. The accompanying history documents 24 services from the first at just 880 miles and continues consistently throughout the car's life. The 300SL was also well known to The SL Shop, having previously passed through them on more than one occasion and last being sold by them in 2016 to the owner prior to its most recent keeper. The history also provides a useful insight into the car's condition over the years. In May 2015, when the mileage was recorded at 79,973, the Mercedes was MOT tested and tuned by Western Mercedes of Edinburgh, while specialist records from around this period described the bodywork as completely solid and the car as dry throughout. With the mileage now at 85,416, the Mercedes has covered just 5,443 miles in the intervening eleven years.

Its most recent owner purchased the 300SL in 2022 with approximately 85,300 miles recorded, adding it to a private collection of more than 15 vehicles. As with many cars held within a collection, it was used only occasionally and there were periods when the car was not presented for an MOT. The recorded mileages support this limited use, showing 85,317 miles in 2023 and just 85,354 when it returned for MOT in 2026. Today the odometer shows 85,416 miles, meaning the car has covered little more than 100 miles since joining the collection in 2022. Since arriving with us, the latest of its 24 recorded services has been carried out by our local Bosch specialist at 85,407 miles and included a full engine service together with servicing of the four-speed automatic gearbox. As part of our preparation the car has also received four new tyres, refurbishment of the Cream Leather seating and a full professional valet.

Externally, Signal Red suits the clean lines of the R107 particularly well and is complemented by the original-style 15-hole flat-face alloy wheels. The bodywork presents extremely well, while the car is also supplied with its colour-matched factory hardtop. The Black fabric hood has previously been replaced and remains in excellent condition, giving the car the choice of open-top motoring or the more enclosed feel of the hardtop when required.
Inside, the Cream Leather provides an excellent contrast to the Signal Red exterior and has benefited from our recent seat refurbishment. Factory specification includes the four-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Economy modes, ABS, power steering, central locking, electric windows, heat-insulating green glass, graduated tinted windscreen, heated washer jets, front fog lamps and rear seatbelt mounting. The car also retains its Blaupunkt Toronto radio, a pleasing period detail within the traditional Mercedes-Benz cabin.

Mechanically, the 300SL uses Mercedes-Benz's smooth 3.0-litre straight-six engine coupled to the four-speed automatic gearbox. Introduced for the final years of R107 production, the 300SL combines the traditional character and build quality of the long-running SL with smooth six-cylinder performance and relaxed touring ability.

What makes this particular 300SL especially appealing is the combination of presentation, provenance and maintenance history. With 85,416 miles showing, 24 recorded services, its original maintenance booklet, both soft and factory hardtops, documented specialist history and the recent programme of preparation carried out since arriving with us, it offers a very complete example of the R107. Currently tested until May-27 however it will be supplied with a fresh MOT, our 3-month major mechanical warranty and a vehicle history certificate confirming no outstanding finance or recorded insurance loss. We recommend the use of premium unleaded E5 fuel.
