ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD

With us here at RFH Classics we have this stunning 1965 (C) Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III finished in a Two Tone of Royal Blue over Silver. The car was the subject of a major restoration that was undertaken for the previous owner around 4 years ago when they spent more than £40k on the paint and trim to produce the beautiful example seen here now. The Silver Cloud III was first revealed to the public in October 1962 and replaced the already successful Silver Cloud II.

With the new model there was significant reduction in the weight of the vehicle, some suggesting over 100 kg lighter than its predecessor. Additionally improvements were made to increase the power output of the engine although even back in 1965 Rolls Royce were very reluctant to ever disclose details of the overall output of power units built. Other noticeable changes to the exterior of a Series III included the redesigned headlamp layout with the lights now being grouped together and the inclusion of an iconic double R badge located between them. In addition the Series III saw alterations to the centre hinged bonnet with this being redesigned to reduce the radiator grille height, improved suspension and handling making it probably the best Cloud to drive, new front integrated indicators and side light to the front wings, revised rear tail lights as well as the addition of the Silver Cloud III boot lid badge.

Internally the new Series III gained the twin front seat as opposed to the previous bench arrangement giving the occupants a wider front seat with more individual adjustment, the introduction of the leather top dash, revised dash vents for improved ventilation and the boot area was redesigned allowing for more space. As the pictures show, the interior of this car is virtually unworn and finished in high quality Grey Leather that not only covers the seats but extends to the door cards and other trim. To compliment the seating the floors are carpets in a beautiful Blue Wool Carpet. As with any Rolls Royce their attention to detail is second to none and it shows in this car, the Walnut Veneer finishes to the dash, door capping’s and rear picnic tables are virtually unmarked and really compliment both the carpets and leather seats. If we were to cast a critical eye over the interior then the front door pulls would be improved with a recover bit otherwise it is lovely.

Under the centre splined bonnet of this Cloud III there is a 6.2 L V8 engine that is running on Unleaded Fuel, albeit Super so as to avoid the issues related to standard unleaded. The engine, which fires into life at the turn of the key is paired to a GM Hydramatic 3 Speed Automatic gearbox that is delivering the power via the smoothest of drives through the rear wheels. The Silver Cloud III was in our opinion the best of the Clouds in the way it delivers its power and comfort and this car represents truly fantastic value for money, to source a suitable doner car today and then set about a restoration to this standard you are probably looking at a 2 or 3 year project and an investment of over £60k.
