With us here at RFH Classics we are pleased to offer this charming 1977 (S) MG Midget 1500 finished in the rarely seen and distinctly ’70s shade of Sandglow Beige matched with a Tan Vinyl interior. This striking combination gives the car a warm, retro character that really helps to set it apart from the usual Red or Green examples more commonly seen. The car recently came to us in part exchange from its former long previous owner who had owned the car for the past ten years.

The bodywork presents very well with its straight panels and has a strong shine clearly reflecting the care it has received over the years. The Black rubber bumpers contrast well against the Sandglow paintwork with the look of the car being finished off with the addition of the polished edge Minilite-style alloy wheels complete with Black centres that add a subtle yet sporty upgrade to this eye catching roadster.

Under the bonnet you will find the familiar 1491cc four cylinder engine, a lively and dependable engine that was introduced to the Midget range in 1974 to meet US emissions standards and superseded the earlier A-Series units. The engine offers runs very well with minimal choke to start her from cold and quickly settling down to a smooth tick over when warm. The modest but engaging power is delivered via a 4 speed manual gearbox that delivers the kind of rev happy driving experience which has long defined the Midget’s spirit. Despite its compact size, the Midget has always been capable of putting a smile on a driver’s face and never more so than when the roof is down and the road opens up ahead.

In the office we have now compiled the accompanying service information in one of our RFH Classics presentation folders giving you a vast selection of old receipts and MOT tests dating from 1985. A nice addition to this folder is the original MG Midget handbook and rarely found Passport Service booklet, complete with details of the first owner, Ms Elliott of Newcastle and each of the subsequent owners through the years. The front cover of the Passport book confirms the car was supplied new by Dias & Co Ltd of Carlisle and within this are the details that complete the early service history with a record of twelve services dating from new to late 1983 and 23,400 miles.

First launched in 1961, the Midget has evolved steadily through the years culminating in this last version which remained in production until 1979. The 1500 variant is often viewed as the most usable of the bunch offering better gearing for modern roads and improved comfort without losing the nimble handling the car is famous for. MG Midget’s have long enjoyed a dual reputation both as a perfect entry into classic motoring or as a much loved lightweight sports car that still charms even the most seasoned enthusiast so whether you are looking for a cheerful weekend classic or a genuine piece of 1970s British motoring nostalgia, this MG Midget 1500 delivers character, reliability and fun in equal measure.
