With us now at RFH Classics is this 1980 (W) MG Midget 1500 Anniversary Edition finished in Gloss Black with matching Black trim. This car is one we have previously had the pleasure of supplying to the last owner, who has now had to sell the car due to work commitments taking him back to France. The car is a little bit unusual as it is one of the Anniversary Edition Midgets that was produced to celebrate the end of production for what was the very successful Midget range. With production limited to the last 500 cars built all were finished in Gloss Black of which this particular example is number 44 of the 500. These Special Editions have become increasingly collectable and desirable to own now as they represent the last cars built.

When we last purchased the car around two years ago it had been the subject of a father and son restoration project that they had completed together over the previous five or so years. During this time the car underwent an extensive restoration to the whole vehicle and as can be seen from the photographs, they made a very good job of it. It is good to see that in order to retain its authenticity the original Anniversary specification was adhered to including retaining the original style seating and Rostyle wheels along with the vinyl roof which remains to the original pattern and is in very good condition with a clear rear window.

Like all the later rubber bumper Midgets, the Anniversary Edition was fitted with the 1491cc 4 cylinder petrol engine which is paired to a 4 speed manual gearbox. Whilst the engine and gearbox were out during the restoration, a new clutch and slave cylinder were fitted and we were advised by the previous owners that the engine was also converted to run on unleaded fuel. With a little choke the engine fires into life and runs very well with good oil pressure both hot and cold. The braking system also benefited from an overhaul with new wheel cylinders, shoes and pads fitted and to complete the original look of the car the Rostyle wheels were refurbished and then fitted with new tyres all round. This car is now perfect for either the first time classic buyer looking for a classic that is economical to own and run or equally so for the seasoned owner who love the way a Midget drives and gives so much enjoyment.

In the office we have compiled the paperwork into one of our presentation folders which contains a large number of older MOT certificates dating back to 1988, along with a selection of service and parts invoices from 1995 through to when the car was taken off the road for restoration.
