With us here at RFH Classics we have this low ownership 1956 Rover P4 75 4 Dr Saloon finished in the period correct Dark Green exterior with a contrasting Green Leather interior. This lovely P4 has been extensively overhauled over the past 3 years by its former owner who invested over £13,000 on upgrades including the rarely found power steering. The Rover P4’s distinctive design featured the early ‘suicide door’ feature and offered true understated British elegance from the post war era which was coupled with solid engineering and timeless styling that has earned the model the affectionate nickname of “Auntie Rover”.

Under the large, curved bonnet of the P4 sits a smooth 2.2-litre straight-six engine that is paired to a 4 speed manual gearbox with a column mounted gear change. Known for their robust mechanicals and quiet refinement, the Rover of this period were the choice of professionals and company directors who wanted Bentley like comfort without the extravagance. Inside, the cabin is everything you would expect from a mid ’50s Rover with soft leather seats, polished wood trim and a clear, functional dash layout that remains charmingly uncluttered. This particular car’s contrasting Green hide presents very well and gives the interior a rich, authentic character.

We are pleased to note that WWB 836 comes with a documented MOT history dating back to December 2005, when it had a recorded mileage of 30,165 miles. Since then, a combination of physical and digital records suggests careful and sparing use, contributing to its well preserved condition today. The car has benefited from considerable recent investment to ensure it remains both mechanically sound and enjoyable to drive. In 2022, a respected classic car specialist undertook a major recommissioning which included fitting safety belts, replacing the shock absorbers and other preparation for MOT testing which saw an £8,146 investment into maintaining the car. The same specialist then conducted further works in 2023 which included fitting the very desirable electric power steering and other mechanical refurbishments with a further £3,800 investment.

In 2024, electrical maintenance work was conducted followed by the installation of new brake wheel cylinders all round in 2025 which added a further £1,325 investment into the cars careful upkeep. Most recently, we at RFH Classics have serviced the car, installed a new water pump and had the front brake shoes relined in preparation for its current 12 month MOT. Adding to the charm, the history file includes a photograph of the car with TV motoring presenter Mike Brewer, seen shaking hands with what we believe to be one of the former owners. Quite why this is there we are as yet unable to find out, but this adds a unique and individualized touch to the car and a little celebrity connection to this already characterful classic.

The history behind the P4 itself saw by 1956 the model receiving several updates including revised front wings and indicators, larger rear lights and minor improvements to comfort and reliability, subtle evolutions that make this example particularly appealing to enthusiasts looking for a classic that’s both usable and collectible and helping identify this this true classic car with a charm all of its own and this Rover P4 75 is a dignified survivor of Britain’s golden age of motoring.
