Here at RFH Classics we are delighted to offer this truly exceptional 1971 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller, a car that is not just beautifully restored example but also one of the very last ever Traveller’s built as it was completed during the final 10 days of production. Supplied new in 1971 and original registered in Newport, South Wales records confirm this Traveller rolled off the line right towards the end of the production helping to make it a significant piece of British motoring history. In fact, this very car was previously owned by none other than Danny Hopkins, former editor of Practical Classics magazine, before being acquired by its most recent and long term owner who went on to own the car for over a decade.
Wanting to preserve and elevate the car to the highest possible standard, he commissioned a full nut-and-bolt restoration through the renowned Charles Ware Morris Minor Centre who, at the time were widely regarded as one of the finest specialists in the marque. The restoration was extensive enough to include the use of a brand new Ash frame that was supplied by Woodies of Chichester, maybe one of the most respected Morris timber frame builders in the UK. Starting in 2016 and taking a couple of years to be completed, a figure close to £28,000 was invested in this meticulous rebuild with us holding a folder containing all the receipt’s for the fully itemised restoration with every stage from the smallest washer and nut through to the full Newton Commercial interior retrim and all the invoices and correspondence from Charles Ware themselves confirming the scope of works.
Originally leaving the factory in solid green, the car was repainted during restoration in its correct-period shade of Red which we go so far as to say makes the car one of the most desirable and striking cars available today and a choice that perfectly suits the car’s character and charm. This immaculate Morris Traveller presents in concours condition throughout complete with stunning panel fit, flawless woodwork and one of the best detailed engine bays we have ever seen in a Morris. Firing into life with minimal choke the car quickly settles to a smooth running example that runs and drives exactly as you would expect and hope for in a car restored by market leading experts and is now ready to be enjoyed or exhibited by a new owner. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the final Morris Minors ever built that has been meticulously restored to a standard rarely seen and supported with impeccable provenance.
